The average portrait session is about one hour. 

Portraits can be taken in my home studio, your home, or a location of your choice (local park).

The session can include a variety of poses or spots within the location pre-selected. 

The objective is to capture the most natural poses while the child or family is relaxed and comfortable. 

When photographing children, portrait sessions are most successful after a meal or snack.

Choose clothing colors that compliment skin-tone and hair color.

Think about the location in your home where the portrait(s) will be displayed.  Focus on the color decor and the style of the room (formal vs. casual).  In addition, think about the orientation of the portrait (portrait/landscape or vertical/horizontal).

Group shots should include consistent or complimentary colors.  Clothing does not need to match for black/white portraits.

Avoid large prints, stripes, or polka-dots that tend to be distracting.

Bare feet is preferred for casual portraits.  Shoes can sometimes be distracting.

Ideal choices include jeans or khakis with a red, white, or blue shirt.

Although props can sometimes cause distraction, they can also help comfort a child, aid in capturing a precious moment, or they can provide symbolism (gift from grandparents).  Feel free to bring one of your favorites.
